35 In everything I have pointed out to you [by example] that, by working diligently in this manner, we ought to assist the weak, being mindful of the words of the Lord Jesus, how He Himself said, It is more blessed (makes one happier and more to be envied) to give than to receive.
Acts 20:35 AMPC
Better to give than receive
Paul an Apostle of the Lord Jesus, says that the Lord says, "it is more blessed to give than receive." We see confirmation of this multiple times in the Gospels.
41 And He sat down opposite the treasury and saw how the crowd was casting money into the treasury. Many rich [people] were throwing in large sums.
42 And a widow who was poverty-stricken came and put in two copper mites [the smallest of coins], which together make half of a cent.
43 And He called His disciples [to Him] and said to them, Truly and surely I tell you, this widow, [she who is] poverty-stricken, has put in more than all those contributing to the treasury.
44 For they all threw in out of their abundance; but she, out of her deep poverty, has put in everything that she had—[even] all she had on which to live.
Mark 12:41-44 AMPC
Jesus called His disciples and showed them the poor widow, who put in what she had and said that she gave more than everyone else. She gave everything out of her poverty and others gave out of their abundance.
We should help one another and give when people are in need. This is how we also show our love for each other. How can we say we love one another but not help when a person is truly in need. How is the love of Christ in us?
15 If a brother or sister is poorly clad and lacks food for each day,
16 And one of you says to him, Good-bye! Keep [yourself] warm and well fed, without giving him the necessities for the body, what good does that do?
James 2:15-16 AMPC
17 But if anyone has this world’s goods (resources for sustaining life) and sees his brother and fellow believer in need, yet closes his heart of compassion against him, how can the love of God live and remain in him? 1 John 3:17 AMPC
