31 And as you would like and desire that men would do to you, do exactly so to them.
Luke 6:31 AMPC
Do unto others as you would have them do unto you
This command of Jesus has been referred to as the Golden Rule. This command is important for us to follow because how we treat others will come back on us. This rule is similar to reaping and sowing. We will reap whatever we sow (Galatians 6:7). Whatever we sow to others is what will come back to us.
If we respect others then respect will come back to us. This isn't always the case because some people will be rude towards us. God will deal with those people if they don't repent. Another reason why this is so important because what we do to others God will do to us. If we forgive others, God will also forgive us:
15 But if you do not forgive others their trespasses [their reckless and willful sins, leaving them, letting them go, and giving up resentment], neither will your Father forgive you your trespasses
Matthew 6:15.
Also reference: Matthew 18:21-35 - Luke 17:3-4.
If we sow unforgiveness towards others we will reap unforgiveness from God!
If we are merciful to others, then God will be merciful towards us. If we are not merciful then God will not be merciful towards us.
13 For to him who has shown no mercy the judgment [will be] merciless, but mercy [full of glad confidence] exults victoriously over judgment. James 2:13 AMPC
