Daily Play Call #52

8 ... drive out demons. Freely (without pay) you have received, freely (without charge) give.

Matthew 10:8 AMPC

Cast out demons

One of the commands of Jesus to the disciples was to cast out or drive out demons. Some people are possessed (under the power or control of a demon) and some people are oppressed. In the authority of Jesus we can command demons to leave in His name. When I have commanded demons to leave, I use the authority given to me because I believe in Jesus.

17 And these attesting signs will accompany those who believe: in My name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new languages;

Mark 16:17 AMPC

Today, some ministries have become slightly heretical with their teaching about casting out demons. Some people mainly focus on demons and rejoice that they can cast them out in Jesus name. What did Jesus say about this?

19 Behold! I have given you authority and power to trample upon serpents and scorpions, and [physical and mental strength and ability] over all the power that the enemy [possesses]; and nothing shall in any way harm you.

20 Nevertheless, do not rejoice at this, that the spirits are subject to you, but rejoice that your names are enrolled in heaven.

Luke 10:19-20 AMPC

  • Jesus says to NOT rejoice that demonic spirits are subject to us but to rejoice that our names are written in Heaven!

There are some who even try to call down fire from Heaven to try and torture them or use Holy water to burn them as well. None of this is Scriptural. Let's see how Jesus dealt with people who were demon possessed.

28 And when He arrived at the other side in the country of the Gadarenes, two men under the control of demons went to meet Him, coming out of the tombs, so fierce and savage that no one was able to pass that way.

29 And behold, they shrieked and screamed, What have You to do with us, Jesus, Son of God? Have You come to torment us before the appointed time?

30 Now at some distance from there a drove of many hogs was grazing.

31 And the demons begged Him, If You drive us out, send us into the drove of hogs.

32 And He said to them, Begone! So they came out and went into the hogs, and behold, the whole drove rushed down the steep bank into the sea and died in the water.

Matthew 8:28-32 AMPC

  • The demons asked Jesus, "Have You come to torment us before the appointed time?" Demons have an appointed time when they will be tormented. Jesus didn't torment demons, He only casted them out. We should follow our Master Jesus' leading and just cast them out.

  • Also, some ministers are charging people for deliverance. Jesus commanded that we do this freely without charge. If someone is charging for deliverance they are operating in disobedience to what Jesus has commanded.
