Daily Play Call #78

12 Jesus also said to the man who had invited Him, When you give a dinner or a supper, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy neighbors, lest perhaps they also invite you in return, and so you are paid back.

13 But when you give a banquet or a reception, invite the poor, the disabled, the lame, and the blind.

14 Then you will be blessed (happy, fortunate, and to be envied), because they have no way of repaying you, and you will be recompensed at the resurrection of the just (upright).

Luke 14:12-14 AMPC

When You Have A Banquet

Jesus is telling the man who invited him that whenever he gives a banquet to invite the poor, lame, and the blind. The reason why He says that is so he can receive a reward at the resurrection of the just. The poor, lame, and blind have no way of repaying him back for the banquet they were invited to. God will repay him back because he helped those in need.

Jesus says to the man, "Do not invite your friends, or your brothers or your relatives or your wealthy friends." The reason why Jesus says to not invite them is because they will be able to pay him back by inviting him over to their banquet. Jesus is telling the man to focus on doing work for the Kingdom of God by taking care of the less fortunate.

  • Here are some ways to take care of the less fortunate.

  • You can invite homeless people to eat with you at a restaurant.

  • Instead of inviting family and friends you can invite the less fortunate to your Holiday celebration.
