Daily Play Call #76

38 John said to Him, Teacher, we saw a man who does not follow along with us driving out demons in Your name, and we forbade him to do it, because he [q]is not one of our band [of Your disciples].

39 But Jesus said, Do not restrain or hinder or forbid him; for no one who does a mighty work in My name will soon afterward be able to speak evil of Me.

40 For he who is not against us is for us.

Mark 9:38-40 AMPC

Do not inhibit other believers

The disciples saw another man casting out demons in Jesus' name or authority. They proceeded to stop the man because he was not following Jesus' disciples. Jesus rebuked His disciples and told them to leave the man alone and allow him to continue to do what he is doing. Jesus explains to them that whoever is not against them is for them. Even though the man was not with them and their group, he was for Jesus and them because he was doing the same work they were doing for the Kingdom of God.

We as Christians should not try to hinder each other in any way. Today, there is jealousy, bitterness, and unforgiveness in the Body of Christ and this has led people in the faith to try and hinder one another. We are all on the same team and should be looking to help each other in our walk with Christ. We should not hinder any believer from doing work for God's Kingdom. We wouldn't want anyone trying to hinder us from doing what God has called us to do. Also, we do not want to find ourselves hindering the work of the Lord.

38 Now in the present case let me say to you, stand off (withdraw) from these men and let them alone. For if this doctrine or purpose or undertaking or movement is of human origin, it will fail (be overthrown and come to nothing);

39 But if it is of God, you will not be able to stop or overthrow or destroy them; you might even be found fighting against God!

Acts 5:38-39 AMPC

  • Remember, Do Unto others as you would have them do unto you!
