15 But He said to them, You are the ones who declare yourselves just and upright before men, but God knows your hearts. For what is exalted and highly thought of among men is detestable and abhorrent (an abomination) in the sight of God.

Highly exalted among men
In Luke 16, Jesus is talking to the Pharisees and rebuking them because of their hypocrisy. He states that what is highly exalted among men, is an abomination in the eyes of God. Nothing in this world should be exalted above God. This world exalts, celebrities, athletes, politicians, and other things as well. Anything we worship or adore more than God is an idol. Having idols in our lives is breaking the first and greatest commandment and also one of the 10 commandments.
I know for me, I used to idolize sports. This was not pleasing to the Lord. There is nothing wrong with playing sports but we should play our sports for the glory of God and not of ourselves. We in no way created ourselves or determine our own life span. We must humble ourselves before God every day.
