Daily Play Call #57

41 All of you must keep awake (give strict attention, be cautious and active) and watch and pray, that you may not come into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.

Matthew 26:41 AMPC

watch & pray part-2

Jesus is telling his disciples in the Garden of Gethsemane to keep awake, watch and pray that they do not come into temptation. Then He says that the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak. Jesus in Matthew 6 taught us all how to pray and in that prayer He says to say, "...lead us not into temptation but deliver us from the evil one." When Jesus was about to be arrested He was telling the disciples what to do to help overcome the temptation. When He left and came back again the disciples were sleeping. Unfortunately, Peter submitted to the temptation and he cut off the ear of a servant. Jesus rebuked Peter for doing that and told him all those who live by the sword will die by the sword.

51 And behold, one of those who were with Jesus reached out his hand and drew his sword and, striking the body servant of the high priest, cut off his ear.

52 Then Jesus said to him, Put your sword back into its place, for all who draw the sword will die by the sword.

Matthew 26:51-52 AMPC

When I walk into a grocery store, mall, school, office or any other place, I pray, "Lord lead me not into temptation but deliver me from evil." I do this so I don't fall and submit to a temptation and sin against God. Whenever I pray this, God always comes through and makes a way for me to escape the temptation.

13 For no temptation (no trial regarded as enticing to sin), [no matter how it comes or where it leads] has overtaken you and laid hold on you that is not common to man [that is, no temptation or trial has come to you that is beyond human resistance and that is not adjusted and adapted and belonging to human experience, and such as man can bear]. But God is faithful [to His Word and to His compassionate nature], and He [can be trusted] not to let you be tempted and tried and assayed beyond your ability and strength of resistance and power to endure, but with the temptation He will [always] also provide the way out (the means of escape to a landing place), that you may be capable and strong and powerful to bear up under it patiently.

1 Corinthians 10:13 AMPC

  • Watch & Pray at all times!

Remember: "Also [Jesus] told them a parable to the effect that they ought always to pray and not to turn coward (faint, lose heart, and give up)."

Luke 18:1 AMPC
