36 Keep awake then and watch at all times [be discreet, attentive, and ready], praying that you may have the full strength and ability and be accounted worthy to escape all these things [taken together] that will take place, and to stand in the presence of the Son of Man.
Luke 21:36 AMPC

Watch & pray part-1
In Luke 21, Jesus is telling the disciples future events that are going to come pass in the world. He is telling them about the destruction of the temple and about the wars and persecution to come. There will be a time of great tribulation in the end times. Jesus tells us to not get caught up in the things of the world and to be prepared to stand before Him when He comes back. When Jesus says to WATCH, that means give strict attention and always be ready.
In football, whenever we are in a game we have to stay focused at all times. Players who are on the sideline also have to stay ready and paying attention to the game. The players who do not start or play much also have to be ready to go in the game. At any moment their number can be called and they must be ready to perform. Coaches and other players get upset when a player is supposed to go in the game but he isn't ready. Usually, if that player isn't ready the coach will find someone else and replace him.
Once we get in the game we must be ready to play. We get into a football stance in our specific position, focused ready to do our job. We can't look at the fans in the stands or at any one else and get distracted. We must stay focused so we can do our job and succeed.

Jesus wants us to stay focused on Him and ready to stand before Him any day. Any day could be our last day on Earth. We always need to make sure we are ready at all times to make our departure to the Celestial City.
Jesus also says to pray so that we may be counted worthy to escape all of the evils that are about to come on the earth. We need to be consistent in prayer which is communication with the Head Coach Jesus.
