Daily Play Call #44

27 Stop toiling and doing and producing for the food that perishes and decomposes [in the using], but strive and work and produce rather for the [lasting] food which endures [continually] unto life eternal; the Son of Man will give (furnish) you that, for God the Father has authorized and certified Him and put His seal of endorsement upon Him.

John 6:27 AMPC

Labor for eternal food

In John 6, Jesus is addressing a crowd that was probably around Him because He performed the miracles and gave them food to eat. Jesus tells them to stop striving for food that perishes or doesn't last but to strive for food that is eternal. What does this look like?

  • 28 They then said, What are we to do, that we may [habitually] be working the works of God? [What are we to do to carry out what God requires?] 29 Jesus replied, This is the work (service) that God asks of you: that you believe in the One Whom He has sent [that you cleave to, trust, rely on, and have faith in His Messenger]. John 6:28-29 AMPC

Jesus tells them to believe in Him which is to put their faith, trust, and obedience to the Son of God. Jesus says that if we love Him we will obey His commands in John 14:15.

  • What are you striving for?

  • Are you striving for Heavenly food or Earthly food that perishes?

There is nothing wrong with working to provide income for our needs or to help others. Jesus wants our main goal or main focus in life to do the works of the Father. At school, do you talk about Jesus? Do you pray for students who are in need and maybe hurting? At your job, do you talk about Jesus? Do you pray for your co-workers who maybe hurting or going through a tough time?

We shouldn't be striving for money. We should be striving for Jesus to be known. Remember to seek 1st the Kingdom of Heaven and His Righteousness and all of these things will be added unto us.
