"...You shall not steal..."
Matthew 19:18 AMPC
You shall not steal
I am truly thankful for God's mercy because I am one who is guilty of committing this sin. When I was in college me and a couple of my teammates were bored and we decided to drive to Wal-mart to buy some pliers to cut the chain off of bicycles and steal them. We also purchased paint ball guns to shoot people with them on campus. The saying, "idle hands is the devil's playground," is so true. We were idle and we got a bad thought and submitted to it. We went on campus and stole about 5 bicylces. If we would have been caught we could have been charged with a felony. Plus, we were shooting random people with paint ball guns. I was extremly foolish back then.
There are deeper levels to understanding about not stealing. For example in school or on a job when you take a pen or pencil that belongs to someone else without their permission is stealing. It's important that we are doing everything for the glory of God.
Everything we do is being written down and recorded. It will show up on Judgement Day. We will have to give an account for our deeds.
12 I [also] saw the dead, great and small; they stood before the throne, and books were opened. Then another book was opened, which is [the Book] of Life. And the dead were judged (sentenced) by what they had done [their whole way of feeling and acting, their aims and endeavors] in accordance with what was recorded in the books.
