Daily Play Call #15

19 Do not gather and heap up and store up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust and worm consume and destroy, and where thieves break through and steal.

20 But gather and heap up and store for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust nor worm consume and destroy, and where thieves do not break through and steal;

21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

Matthew 6:19-21 AMPC

DO not store up treasure on earth

Jesus gives us a command to not store up treasures on earth but to store up Heavenly treasures. The Lord says that the treasures on earth do not last because they can rust and be stolen from you which is TRUE. The treasures in Heaven cannot rust or be stolen from you because it is everlasting.

Some people have extravagant mansions the size of office buildings 10,000-23,000 square feet or above and only 2 people may live in it. Or some people may have 4-5 different cars to drive only for themselves as luxury, on different days of the week. There are single moms and dads who are raising 2-3 kids who need help getting a car. There are high school kids in America who go to school and are hungry. Their only meal for that day is the lunch that they get at school. We should be mindful of others who are in need and not just concerned about ourselves and our own pleasures. If a wealthy person has 4-5 cars why can't they consider selling 2-3 of the cars and using that money to help someone else who is in dire need?

  • 33 Sell what you possess and give donations to the poor; provide yourselves with purses and handbags that do not grow old, an unfailing and inexhaustible treasure in the heavens, where no thief comes near and no moth destroys. Luke 12:33 AMPC

Jesus is saying do not store up because wherever your treasure is, there will your heart be also. Some people's heart is in their earthly possessions and this will prevent them from truly following Jesus because their heart is in a different place. If your treasure is in Heaven, then your heart will be for the Lord.

  • There is nothing wrong with having an abundance of money. We should use the abundance to help others and further the advancement of the Kingdom of Heaven. Jesus doesn't want us using the abundance of money to store up possessions for ourselves here on earth.

  • Pastors should be the example in following this command of Jesus and should live modestly.
