34 I give you a new commandment: that you should love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too should love one another.
35 By this shall all [men] know that you are My disciples, if you love one another [if you keep on showing love among yourselves].
John 13:34 AMPC
A new command
Jesus gives His disciples a new command which is to love one another as He has loved them. How did Jesus love His disciples?
He taught them the words of His Father.
He was patient with them.
He corrected them.
He fed and served them. Jesus washed their feet.
He was merciful towards them.
Jesus told them this command after He had washed their feet. When I was a Youth Pastor I held a foot washing service for the youth, teaching them how to walk in love and obedience to the commands of Jesus. This was one of the best youth services we had.
Ask the Lord in prayer to lead you on how to love your neighbor as Jesus has loved us. Our love for others will show that we are true disciples (followers) of Jesus.
The Holy Spirit will lead you to go through the Gospels to remind you of what Jesus has already commanded.
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
John 14:26 KJV
